The Howard Lechler ’48 Endowed Medical Assistance Fund was established in April 2000 through a gift from Mary Lou and Howard E. Lechler ’48 to make financial assistance to Clarkson Faculty and Staff (and their immediate family) with extraordinary medical expenses not covered by insurance.

Tuition Assistance

Clarkson University encourages continued learning for employees.  Provisions for Staff tuition, tuition for spouses and/or domestic partners and tuition for children are included in the employee benefit program to encourage and assist eligible employees with educational pursuits.

  • Employee must be full-time
  • 12 Credit hours at Clarkson University (fall, spring, summer) per fiscal year or 2 classes at St. Lawrence University, SUNY Canton or SUNY Potsdam under the cross-registration option
  • Tuition free
  • Employee must be hired prior to the start of a semester to receive the benefit for that semester
  • Graduate level courses may be considered a taxable benefit if over $5250.00; it is recommended to consult with a tax advisor (Tuition cost – $5250.00  x .0765 = Fica Tax Owed)
  • Employee must be full-time
  • Spouse and/or Domestic Partner pays 1/3 of the normal tuition cost
    • Graduate or Under-Graduate Courses
  • Benefit is not retroactive
  • Employee must be hired prior to the start of a semester to receive the benefit for that semester
  • Graduate level courses may be considered a taxable benefit if over $5250.00; it is recommended to consult with a tax advisor
  • Employee must be full-time
  • Child(ren) can take 8 semesters tuition free at Clarkson University
    • Associate or Baccalaureate Level Degrees
  • Child(ren) of retired full-time employees who qualify are eligible
  • Summer Courses can be taken at 1/3 of normal tuition cost to avoid using a full semester and does not count towards the 8 allowed semesters

  • Child(ren) can take 8 semesters tuition free up to the amount set annually by The Tuition Exchange. 
    • Associate or Baccalaureate Level Degrees
  • Does not include room & board, food or other required supplies
