Message From the Chair
As the leaves begin to change in New York's beautiful North Country, it's the perfect time for us to embark upon new endeavors and take stock of our accomplishments. This issue of the Lewis School newsletter celebrates the accomplishments of our outstanding students and faculty, announces a brand new program, and introduces you to our new faculty members. We are all incredibly proud of our latest achievements, and I hope you enjoy reading these stories.

New Paramedic Program
The first-ever paramedic program in the North Country under the direction of a four-year university will kick off in November. A collaborative effort between the Lewis School of Health & Life Sciences and St. Lawrence Health, the full-time program will tackle the significant EMS staffing shortages in rural northern New York and provide equal opportunities for aspiring paramedics, regardless of financial need.
PA Students Assist in Nicaragua
Eleven Physician Assistant Studies students and local medical professionals completed a successful mission trip to Diriomo in Nicaragua. The team constructed pop-up clinics in schools and urban areas, hosted a children’s fair, visited community clinics, and conducted home visits to underserved rural communities. "This trip was a life-changing experience, which I will never forget," said one student.
International Physiotherapy Honor
Assistant Professor of Physical Therapy Kwadwo Appiah-Kubi received an award at Dubai's 2023 World Physiotherapy Congress. He received the honor for his poster “Concurrent Vestibular-Postural Training Promotes Postural Reflexes and Stability.”
Memorial Scholarship
Doctor of Physical Therapy student Xuan Li '24 has been awarded the annual Melissa A. Walsh ’03 ’05 Memorial Endowed Scholarship. The scholarship was established to celebrate the life of Walsh MPT'05, who died in a 2007 motor vehicle accident. Li was chosen for her passion for PT, commitment to excellence and desire to be a lifelong learner.
